A gaming Cofi shop in town

The name ‘Chaicofi’ definitely sounds quirky enough for a happening hangout centre in the city. Located at a quiet corner of Palarivattom, this place is more than just a coffee shop. ‘Chaicofi’ is the brainchild of N Hijaz Tharola and Jawahir Hamza. To set up A normal yet contemporary hangout place with multitude of coffee and snacks was their initial plan, however it turned out to be a Coffee lounge offering 2 floors of gaming extravaganza.

At times some musical bands use the  coffeeshop to play occasional gigs and use it as a platform to hone their craft. One can also book their seats to cheer their favourite football team at this place.

Unlike other teashops, Chaicofi offers 26 varieties of tea.”We are revamping our menu this month to bring in more varieties of tea and burgers” said Hijaz.

The duo is planning to introduce drool-worthy burgers with heavy fillings and juicy patties.

While ‘Chaicofi’ is plush with dim lights, soft couches, board games and private hangout spaces, ‘Woot Gaming’,their third floor,is a gamer’s paradise vibrant with an array of fun games. The latest versions of play station, Alienware Gaming  and a real life laser combat arena are the major attractions of this fantasy world. While the experts have an exclusive space for their playing, the newcomers can also enjoy a little adventure with laser guns using a new method called ‘laser tag’.

“Laser tag is the first of its kind in Kerala. It is more or less like a paintball, except it is the laser version of it,” quipped Jawahir.

“We love hanging out at Chaicofi, mainly because of the gaming centre. Rs80 per hour is quite reasonable,” said Arjun, a student from Kaloor.

“Our main customers are school students and our gaming centre is not just for boys. You will be surprised to know that the current record holder of Laser tag here is a girl,” said Hijaz.

Mariam a huge fan of the Chaicofi said she loves the pastry ‘lord of chocolate’.

The coffee shop is fast becoming the most happening place in the city and the owners are planning to take things to a whole new level in the days to come.
