Indu murder: NIT professor gets bail

The High Court has granted bail to Subhash, an assistant professor at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C), and an accused in the Indu Murder case.

K Indu, a 25-year-old student of NIT-C, was allegedly pushed to death from a moving train while it was over the Thuruth bridge in Aluva on April 25, 2011.

Justice P Bhavadasan passed the order and asked the petitioner not to leave the state without prior permission from the Court.

It also directed him to surrender his passport before the Magistrate Court and appear before the investigating officer every Wednesday.

B Ramanpillai, counsel for the petitioner, submitted that the investigation of the case is over and further detention of the accused is not essential.

The police team recorded statements of 140 witnesses and seized 174 documents during the probe, Crime Branch officials said.

They further said that if the petitioner is released on bail, it may adversely affect the investigation.

Petitioner’s henchman had threatened Kabir, a crucial witness in the case, they said.
