'Centre can decide on Jiji's empanelment'

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday observed that it is the mandate of the Central Government to consider empaneling of IAS officer Jiji Thomson to the post of Secretary to the Government of India.

Justice C T Ravikumar made the observation on a petition filed by Jiji Thomson, fifth accused in the palmolein case, who is seeking a directive to the Centre that the pending case should not be a hindrance in empaneling him to the post of Secretary to the Government of India.

According to the petitioner, the communication from the Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala, to the Secretary, Government of India, revealed that the state has no objection to the empanelement. Government Pleader Roshan D Alexander submitted that a communication had indeed been already sent by the Chief Secretary.
