Saigal A R, a pokkali farmer from Ezhikkara in Ernakulam, has received national recognition for his innovative experiment of integrating cage culture of fin fish with traditional Pokkali-shrimp farming.
In a function held at CMFRI Regional Centre at Mandapam, Tamil Nadu, S Ayyappan, director-general, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) felicitated Saigal.
Saigal has done the experiment in his own field under the direction of the experts from Krishi Vikas Kendra.
The programme was successful and Saigal has got `83,000 additional profit from his field.
B Meenakumari, deputy director-general (Fisheries), ICAR, G Syda Rao, director, CMFRI, K Nanthakumar, district collector, Ramanathapuram, Com H H More and G Gopakumar were present at the function.
