Fishing villages project to be launched Thursday

The Integrated Development of Fishing Villages Project will be launched statewide during a function at the Paravoor HMY Ground on Thursday.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the meeting organised in connection with the launch, while Excise Minister K Babu will preside over the function.

Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas will be the chief guest.Under the projec, 25 fishing villages will be provided with facilities for drinking water, electricity, library and financial support for livelihood and sanitation in 2013-14.  The project cost is estimated at `50 crore.

The villages selected under the project are Paruthiyoor, Poonthura, Puthukurichy, Vizhinjam, Vettoor, Thangassery, Sakthikulangara, Purakkad, Kattoor Pallithodu (South), Pallithodu (North), Arthunkal, Kumbalam, Udayamperoor, Pallippuram, Vadakkekara, Edakkazhiyoor, Kadappuram, Paravanna, Ariyallur, Koyilandy, Elathur, Chalil Gopalpetta, Kottikkulam, Bangara Manjeswaram and Venkitangu.
