'Non-cadre nature of Congress a disadvantage'

The Indian National Congress suffers from disadvantages as a political party, since it is not cadre-based, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. “The Congress party is a mass movement and it certainly has some drawbacks over a cadre party. It needs the support of mass organisations to move closer to the common people,” he said while inaugurating the Eranakulam district committee office here on Thursday.  He lauded the contributions of the NGO association, a mass organisation, in bridging the gap between the party and the public.

Chief Minister congratulated the district committee of the NGO association, for building 15 houses for economically weaker sections as part of the inauguration of their district committee office.  Union minister of state for food and civil supplies KV Thomas, Excise Minister K Babu, Charles Dias MP,MLAs Benny Behanan, Joesph Vazhakkan also participated in the inaugural function.

Chandy who was on a hectic schedule in the district on Tuesday avoided media persons who waited for him.
