Attack on Thammanam Shaji: 6 held

The police on Thursday arrested six persons, reportedly members of a Leftist trade union and youth outfit, for attacking Thammanam Shaji and his gang at Ponnurunni recently.

The arrested persons were Sujith, 31, of Manjadil, Ponnurunni; K K Shihab, 38, Kaniyavelil House, Chalikavattom; Jisho, 29, Cheruchiparambil; Jaychandran, 51, Elanjiparambil; Tulasi Chandran, 43, Kayithothundiyil House, and Binan Kumar, 43, of Perumbadathu.

According to police, the attack was motivated by revenge as Shaji and his gang had attacked DYFI activists at Thammanam a few weeks ago. Police is also tracing two other persons who were involved in the attack on Shaji. The accused persons were produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
