Temple town gears up for Vrischikolsavam

The eight-day festival at Sree Poornathrayeesha Temple will begin on Nov 30

Sree Poornathrayeesa Seva Sangam members on Monday announced that the eight-day Vrischikolsavam  at the Sree Poornathrayeesha Temple, Tripunithura, will commence on November 30.

The hoisting of the holy flag and divine procession will mark the official start of the festival on the day. As usual, about 15 elephants will participate in the ‘ezhunnelippu’ including Chirakkal Kalidasan, Thiruvambadi Chandrasekaran and Sevasangam Sreehari.

Various forms of ‘chenda melam’ such as panchari will be led by chenda maestro Peruvanam Kuttan Marar.

Kelathu Aravindakshan, Peruvanam Satheesan Marar, Thiruvalla Radhakrishnan and Kodakara Sivaraman Nair will also be present.

A special feature of the festival, Panchavadyam, will be led by Chottanikkara Vijayan, Kunissery Chandran, Chengamanadu Appu Nair, Kalpathy Sivasankar and Thiruvalathoor Sivan.

 Also, kathakali performances, including Kuchelavritham, Santhana Gopalam, Rugmini Swayamvaram, Duryodhana Vadham, Nalacharitham, Keechaka Vadam, Kiratham and Kalyanasougandhikam, will be held throughout the festival in the evenings.

Eminent artists like Kalamandalam Vasu Pisharadi, Kalamandalam E Vasudevan, RLV Damodhara Pisharadi, Kalamandalam Pradeepan, Sadanam Krishnan Kutty, Kalamandalam Gopi, Kalamandalam Rajashekaran and Kottakal Chandrasekhara Wariar will be performing.

The Oottupura Maalika will echo with scintillating Carnatic music concerts led by T V Gopalakrishnan, Changanassery C P Madavan Namboothiri, Ramakrishnamoorthy,

G Ravikiran, Kudamaloor K Janardhanan and Rudrapattam Brothers among others.

Seva Sangam president Jayan Magayil said that the decoration and maintenance work of the temple as part of the festival are in progress.

The festival will conclude on December 7 with ‘arattu’ and ‘panchavadhyam’.
