Four bike riders were caught by the local people and handed over to the police on Thursday for doing wheelies at Panampilly Nagar. The arrested persons were Shahabaz, 19, of Fort Kochi; Jibin Antony, 17, Thopumpady; Amaraez, 17, Palluruthy, and Farhan Ashraf, 18, Chulikkal.

According to police officials, Shahabaz and Amaraez were cavorting around on 220 CC bikes doing wheelies, when Amaraez’s bike crashed at K C Joseph Road around 5.30 pm. Following this, local people residing at the area caught and handed them over to the police.

Police officials said one of the riders was not carrying a licence and they frequently took part in reckless bike races. Last week, a person had died after being hit by a speeding bike in the same area.
