The film, ‘Portraits In A Sea Of Lies’, directed by Carlos Gaviria will be screened here on Friday. The Columbian film had won the Golden Crow Pheasant Award at the 15th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in 2010.
It narrates the life of two cousins, Jairo, a roving photographer and Marina, who has lost her memory and is mute. Both decide to take a trip to recover the land from which they were displaced long ago, following the accidental death of their grandfather. They travel from Bogota, in an old Renault to the place on the coast where they were outcasts so many years ago. Each day they spend on their journey, they find themselves haunted by their traumatic past. As soon as they arrive in their hometown, they are abducted by armed assailants.
Jairo is injured while trying to escape. When Marina sees the ruins of her parents’ house, she remembers the massacre that claimed the lives of her family. In the end, she receives the deed to the family home, but Jairo endangers Marina’s life, and she has no option but to continue to fight the ghosts of the past.
The show will commence at 6.30 pm at the Children’s Theatre and those interested can reserve seats in advance. The film will be part of the international film festival on Fridays as part of the year-long weekend art programme organised by the district administration.
The festival is jointly organised by district administration, DIO and theDTPC.
