Shoddy jetty irks public

Except for the touch up at the old jetty at Chithrapuzha Kadavil road in Chittetukara, the Thrikkakara municipality has not taken up any work to ensure that the jetty is made passenger-friendly.

Basheer, a resident of Chittetukara said there are no basic amenities for passengers. “The authorities have not bothered to construct a waiting shed or a proper ramp in the area. Only railings and a few poles have been fixed for the boats to be tied. Also, no transport facilities have been arranged from the jetty,” he said.

The boat jetty is about 600 metres away from the main road. There are no directions anywhere at Kakkanad or Chittetukara about the location of the boat jetty, nor timings on arrival and departure of boats. The Infopark employees will have to travel about 4 km from the jetty.

Residents said that they had forwarded memorandums to the District Collector seeking the construction of the jetty at the western side of the bridge near the Infopark premises.

“But changes were made to the existing boat jetty to make things easier. In the past, private boat services operated between Kakkanad and Thoppumpady,” Basheer said. If the boat jetty had been constructed at the western side of the bridge, it would have helped more.

District Collector P I Sheikh Pareeth said display boards will be set up immediately. Also, autorikshaw facilities will be provided for passengers.
