Students' amenity centre opened

The key to excellence in world rankings is research for cutting-edge technology, said Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor.

Inaugurating the multistorey Students’ Amenity Centre at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), he said that in addition to the government, corporates have a duty to extent support to universities in conducting top-end research in deserving areas.

The Cochin University deserves to be known at a national- level and the HRD Ministry is doing everything in its power to upgrade the university to an Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST). Cusat Vice-Chancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath presided over the function which was held at SMS Auditorium.

Pro Vice-Chancellor K Poulose Jacob, Hibi Eden MLA, syndicate member K Sajan, and controller of examinations and registrar-incharge A B Bhasi spoke on the occasion.
