Fisheries Minister K Babu on Sunday said that the UDF Government is providing an unprecedented financial assistance to fish workers.
Inaugurating the district convention of the Kerala Fish Workers’ Congress, affiliated to INTUC, the Fisheries Minister said but for the failure in providing financial assistance to the Fishermen Debt Relief Commission, the UDF Government has done tremendous work in the fishery sector.
“I accept the criticism that insufficient funds were provided to the Relief Commission. I have raised the issue in the forums concerned. We had demanded Rs 100 crore from the state budget for the functioning of the commission. The Finance Minister had promised that he would give Rs 50 crore. But at the time of allocation, it was reduced to Rs 20 crore,” he said.
