The Residents’ Apex Council Ernakulam (RACE) on Sunday demanded that Ladies only buses should be launched in the City. The Residents’ Association’s demand came in the wake of increasing number of cases related with misconduct against women by some of the private bus staff in the City.
“Bus travel, especially on private buses, through the city during peak hours is a real nightmare for women. Especially between 7.30 am and 10.30 am, and from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm, when the buses will be filled with students. The students carry bags while travelling, worsens the rabble in the bus. Anti-social elements also sneak into these buses and take advantage of the situation to misbehave with women,“ RACE district vice-president V B Jinna said in a statement issued here. She also said that even if the women passengers used to complain about the misconduct, the staff of the private buses gave a deaf ear to it.
RACE also passed a resolution in this regard. The copy of the same will be moved to RTO, District Collector, City Police Commissioner and KSRTC, he said.
