Meet on Organ Donation Held

To create awareness among society on the benefits of organ donation, the PVS Memorial Hospital and the Kidney Federation of India jointly conducted a seminar at the PVS Hospital here.

To create awareness among society on the benefits of organ donation, the PVS Memorial Hospital and the Kidney Federation of India jointly conducted a seminar at the PVS Hospital here.

Fr Davis Chiramel, who spearhead the organ donation movement in the state,  inaugurated the function while also launching the new dialysis unit at the hospital.

The aim of the seminar is to create awareness among the public the significance of donating organs. Several examples of people who have done so were mentioned during the seminar.

“The concept and willingness of organ donation is one of the most obvious forms of showing love to fellow beings, Fr Davis Chiramel said. The fact that many people are coming out willing to donate their organs or those of their loved ones show that people are becoming more aware of the concept,” he added.

Kochouseph Chittilappally who donated one of his kidneys honoured the family members of those who had donated their organs during their death.

Liji, the wife of cable operator Libu K R who had died and Johny, whose sister Annie’s organs, were distributed after her death were honoured at the function.

Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr B Ramesh, Nephrology Department head Georgy K Nainan and Nephrology Department consultant Dr Sooraj Y S were also present.
