Round-the-clock fuel station for mobility hub

The pump of global standards will be set up by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd near the entrance.

The Vyttila Mobility Hub, conceptualised to bring all the basic transport facilities under one roof and aimed at connecting Kochi’s busiest junction to other parts of the city can soon boast a round-the-clock pump station.

If all goes well, the setting up of the  pump of global standards will be undertaken by the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL). The work is set to commence soon.

According to Vyttila Mobility Hub Society Executive Engineer Simon, the Society has handed over 48 cents of land to the BPCL on lease. The BPCL has already sought sanction for setting up the petrol pump from the Kochi Corporation. Once the sanction is approved, the work on the pump will begin, the officials said.

According to Simon, the work which will be taken up by the BPCL on a company operated and maintained system will be completed in three months’ time. “This will be the only pump station on the stretch and be a major blessing for the public. It will be of use to private and KSRTC buses,” he said. The petrol pump will be set up at the left side of the entrance to the hub.

Inspection at Kakkanad

The boat service which is expected to offer transport facilities to people from the Hub and Kakkanad will be ready within the next two weeks. According to KSWTD Director Shaji V Nair, the work at the hub is being delayed owing to the construction of an approach road at Kakkanad.

A joint inspection by the KMRL, Hub as well as the KSWTD officials will be held in the next two days. After conducting the inspection to study the bottlenecks in the construction of an approach road, the work will start, he said. A boat jetty will come up near the Chitrapuzha bridge close to the Infopark. The boat will accommodate 50 passengers and 10 bikes at a time.

The Director also added that the boat built for the service has completed its fitness check in Kannur and will be brought to Ernakulam only after the work of the boat jetties is completed.
