One-man commission appointed

The state government has constituted a one-man commission, with former High Court judge M Ramachandran as a member, to formulate suggestions for drafting a comprehensive Abkari policy.

The state government has constituted a one-man commission, with former High Court judge M Ramachandran as a member, to formulate suggestions for drafting a comprehensive Abkari policy.

The commission will consider various issues under the current Abkari Act and will evolve a policy. The Centre had ordered that liquor vending establishments situated adjacent to National Highways of the state have to be closed down and licenses cancelled.

The commission will consider whether the pending licenses should be recalled, or new licenses are to be issued. The commission has started its work in this regard and suggestions can be sent to Sivam, secretary of the commission, Layam Road, Kochi, on or before November 10.
