Jacobite faction moves HC

The Jacobite faction on Monday approached the Kerala High Court seeking a review of an earlier judgment which upheld the Ernakulam District and Sessions Court’s order that Fr Jacob Kurien, the Orthodox faction vicar of the St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church, Kolenchery, is entitled to the keys of the church.

In the review petition, Jacobite faction leaders Mathew Yohannan and KM George said that there was an error in the judgment which held that the Supreme Court had approved the findings of the High Court that individual parish churches were not independent churches and that the parish churches were constituent parts of the Malankara Church.

The faction pointed out that about 100 suits filed by the Orthodox faction were pending in the lower courts and about 50 first appeals were pending in the High Court.

These were not considered by the bench, the petition added.
