The Palluruthy Police on Monday evening arrested a man for showing obscene video clippings on his mobile phone to school children in Palluruthy.

According to police, Soman, 45, from Nettoor, reached the school where his daughters were studying and showed obscene video clippings to some of the boys in the school.

The parents, who came to pick their children, first noticed the incident and informed the school authorities. Later parents and school officials nabbed Soman and handed him over to police officials.

The police officials said that Soman was separated from his wife and children and was living in North India. He had come to Kochi recently to meet his daughters. Soman was under the influence of liquor when he reached the school. The police also seized his mobile phone.

Meanwhile, the police investigating the molestation of a student by a private bus owner has charged him with the offence of committing atrocities against people of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Dileep, 28, of Elamakkara, owner and employee of a private bus named ‘Citizen’ was charged with the offence of misbehaving with the SC student.

Considering the gravity of the case, it has been transferred from the Ernakulam Additional District Sessions Court (Atrocities and Sexual Violence against Women and Children) to the Ernakulam District and Principal Sessions Court.

Earlier, there had been criticism that the police had charged only minor offences against the accused person. Appu, another accused in the case, is still absconding.

In another molestation bid in a private bus in the city, police arrested an Odisha native from Elamkulam on Monday evening.

The arrested person has been identified as Tuna Digal, 27, Ganjam district, Odisha, who was working at a construction site in the city.
