Three held for robbery bid

Following tightening of security due to Onam, the shadow police on Thursday arrested seven persons from various parts of the city in several cases. Police officials arrested three persons for attempted robbery.

Following tightening of security due to Onam, the shadow police on Thursday arrested seven persons from various parts of the city in several cases. Police officials arrested three persons for attempted robbery.

Three others were caught for sale of drugs. Meanwhile, one person was arrested for tax evasion.Tamil Nadu native Manikandan, 39; Elankunapuzha resident Naseer, 40, and Peechi resident Jayakrishnan, 47, were arrested near Broadway post office.

Manikandan, who is an accused in several theft cases, had been released recently after serving term for theft from the general hospital in Kochi.Naseer is an accused for rampant sale of drugs.

The police recovered a driving licence, ATM card, an ID proof and two knives from Jayakrishnan’s bag.

The police seized 15 grams of ganja from Sooraj, who hails from Kannur, and was caught selling drugs near the Marine Drive helipad. Alappuzha resident Akhil Babu, 22, was also arrested in connection with the case. Aliyar, 32, who used to sell ganja, was also arrested. He used to bring ganja from Idukki and sell it here. The police also arrested 45-year-old Babu for evading tax on textiles worth `1 lakh. Babu had in possession 10 bundles of clothes brought from Bangalore.
