National athletic championship

The 25th Junior National Inter-zonal Athletic Championship will begin here on Sunday. The meet will have four categories -- under-20, under-18 , under-16 and under-14 -- in boys and girls section.

The 25th Junior National Inter-zonal Athletic Championship will begin here on Sunday. The meet will have four categories -- under-20, under-18 , under-16 and under-14 -- in boys and girls section.

The participants are the winners from zonal competitions. The events will start at 6.30 am and end by 5 pm.

Over 900 boys and girls from 27 states will take part in the championship.

K Babu, Minister for Excise, Port and Fisheries, will inaugurate the function at 2 pm at Maharaja’s College synthetic track.  Baby Mathew Somatheeran will preside over. Hibi Eden MLA, B Bhadra, Deputy Mayor; C K Valson, secretary-general, Athletics Federation of India; and Latha Raj, principal, Maharaja’s College; will attend the inaugural ceremony.

The championship will conclude on Tuesday.
