Man Arrested With Arrack

KOCHI: The Kalady police on Wednesday arrested a man who allegedly possessed a bottle of arrack.

The arrested is Jose of Illithode. According to police, he was nabbed around 7 pm at Kalady for selling the banned substance to others. said.

Two More Held for Attack on Police

The CBI on Wednesday arrested two more persons in connection with a case in which a police officer named Babu Kumar was attacked in Kollam.

The arrested are Penty Edwin and Mahesh alias ‘Punchiri’ Mahesh, natives of Kollam. According to the police, the arrested have been produced before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday along with ‘container’ Santosh.

The court granted the request of the CBI for seeking the custody of the arrested persons.

Auto Driver Held

The Ernakulam South police on Wednesday arrested Nitheesh, 24, of Konthuruthy, an auto driver on charges of assaulting a passenger. According to the police, the incident took place in morning at Konthuruthy. The auto driver has allegedly punched the nose of the passenger, Jijo George, 39, an advocate by profession.

The incident took place after the auto driver ridiculed the passenger following an argument regarding the balance settlement, the police said.

One Held for Stealing

The police on Wednesday arrested Manoharan, 40, of Thiruvankulam on charges of stealing high-end mobile phones.

According to the Tripunithura Hill Palace police, the accused was nabbed near the Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple here by a team led by sub-inspector P R Santosh.

The arrested has been remanded for 14 days.

Man Ends Life

Viswanathan Nair of Eloor East, 48,was found hanging from the tree on the premises of his house here early on Wednesday.According to police, the deceased was reportedly suffering from depression following heavy consumption of liquor.
