'They Don't Have Rights Over Church'

“Though we possess the key of the church, we don’t conduct worship so as not to escalate  tension. They don’t have any rights over the church,” said Fr Johns Abraham Konat, priest trustee of the faction. 

According to Fr Konat, those who entered the church had manhandled its manager Fr Jacob Thomas, who belonged to the Orthodox faction.

The assailants included a Jacobite metropolitan. Fr Jacob suffered injuries and is under treatment, he added.Police later locked and sealed the church, around which cops were deployed.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, who visited Catholicos here, said police intervened in the issue to maintain law and order.The District Collector has issued a ban order within two kilometres of the church.
