Defence Civilian Staff to Launch Stir

The four lakh-strong Defence civilian employees working in 41 ordnance factories across the country will go on an indefinite strike on February 17

The four lakh-strong Defence civilian employees working in 41 ordnance factories across the country will go on an indefinite strike on February 17 against the privatisation of the Defence Ministry, said All-India Defence Employees’ Federation (AIDEF) general secretary C Srikumar at a press conference here on Saturday. All three organisations in the sector -AIDEF, Indian National Defence Workers’ Federation and Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh -have extended support to the strike.

A convention in connection with the strike was held in Kochi on Saturday.

Srikumar said it is the first indefinite strike called for by the defence employees since 1960.

AIDEF joint secretary K Balakrishnan, executive committee member K Jayachandran Nair, K K Balachandran and Josy K Cherappuram also spoke at the press meet. ENS
