A few vendors who were conducting business encroaching areas at Fort Kochi were evicted on Monday. The authorities said the eviction drive was carried out after it came to attention that a few hawkers have re-encroached the place soon after the mass eviction drive on January 8.

Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Swagath Bhandari said the move was part of an  High Court order to evict the encroachments. “We carried out a larger eviction drive on January 8 and some of them had come back to the place, even in the land of Port Trust.

They were evicted today, except five of them who had obtained a stay from High Court,” she said. The task force was led by Additional Tahsildar and included the officers from the Fort Kochi Taluk office.
