16 Acquitted in Murder Case

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday acquitted 16 accused in the murder case of Razik from Manjeri.

The accused had been earlier sentenced to life by the Additional District and Sessions Court at Manjeri.A Division Bench comprising Justice V K Mohanan and Justice Kemal Pasha acquitted the accused after finding that the prosecution failed to prove the case. The bench also observed that there was no sufficient material to convict the accused. The court was considering the appeals filed by the 16 CPM activists. The accused Saidalavi and 15 others were charge sheeted for murder and other charges. According to the prosecution, there was a tussle between two muslim factions on July 5, 2001, in connection with a defmuttu competition at Unniyal mosque. Razik, 22, was a Sunni activist belonging to the EK Samastha faction.
