The Kerala High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the state government on an appeal filed by Biju Radhakrishnan’s mother Rajammal, who has challenged her sentence in Reshmi murder case.

Rajammal was found guilty under Section 498A read with 34 of the IPC.

The Kollam District and Sessions Court had awarded her imprisonment of three years in connection with the death of her daughter-in-law Reshmi.

A Division Bench comprising Justice K T Sankaran and Justice P Ubaid considered the plea and sought the state government’s stand in the case.   Reshmi was found dead in Biju’s house at Kottarakara on February 3, 2006. She was forcibly given liquor by Biju after he physically tortured her. Later, she was dragged to the toilet and was killed.
