Collector Holds Talks with Jacobite Church Representatives

The District Collector on Tuesday held discussion with the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church representatives on the issues prevailing at the Thrikkunnathu Seminary and the Church.

The District Collector on Tuesday held discussion with the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church representatives on the issues prevailing at the Thrikkunnathu Seminary and the Church. 

The discussion with the Orthodox faction is scheduled to be conducetd on Friday.

Catholicos Baselios Thomas I of the Jacobite Church on last Saturday had forcefully entered the disputed church to conduct worship. The prelate was later arrested by the police.   

However, the incident resulted in intesifying the tension between the Jacobites and Orthodox factions.

Meanwhile, the Jacobite Church authorities said that the state government should take initiative for fixing separate time for worship on Sundays at the church and the tomb of metropolitan.

“The Jacobite Church  would like to have mediation of the Catholic Church to find permanent solution for the dispute with the Orthodox Church,” said Jacobite Church synod secretary Metropolitan Joseph Mar Gregorios.
