Four autorickshaw drivers in the city were arrested on Saturday in the city for attacking mediapersons. Prashob, Vinod, Jyothy Yohannan and Girish were arrested by the police for manhandling reporters and lensmen of Malayalam news channels, who were covering the indefinite strike by autorickshaw drivers at Palarivattom on Thursday.

The non-arrest of the drivers, who had attacked the mediapersons, was brought to the attention of Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala by officebearers of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists when he visited the city on Friday.

Following this, the Minister ordered immediate arrest of the culprits.

Even as autorickshaw drivers extended their indefinite strike across the district on Saturday, various unions have decided to take out a protest march to the Police Commissioner’s office along with their families on Monday.

According to V V Praveen, Coordination Committee of Trade Unions, the march will be taken from PT Usha Road to the Commissioner’s office at 10 am.
