District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth, who will demit the office after three years to take charge as the Director of Public Instruction, have several achievements to his credit.

It was during his tenure that Kochi witnessed a major chunk of developmental projects, including Kochi Metro Rail, Smartcity, Edapally flyover and A L Jacob Rail Overbridge. Many of these projects would not have realised if land acquisition was carried out on time and Sheik Pareeth played a major role in it.

The responsibility of acquiring land for the colossal `20,000-crore BPCL-Kochi Refinery Expansion Project rested on his shoulders which he fulfilled with his might.

By ending the long wait of Pizhala islanders for a bridge, the construction  work of Pizhala - Moolambilly - Chathanadu bridge was transferred to DMRC by the district administration under his leadership.

The much-touted e-district project where the public can get important  certificates online has earned him reputation as the ‘People’s Collector’. Muhammad Haneesh, former district collector and managing director, Roads and Bridges Corporation, agrees to it.

“He had long hours at his office, sometimes into the midnight, listening to the grievances of common man. Besides, he had put in tremendous efforts in realising many of our infrastructure projects,” he said.

Mayor Tony Chammany said he is humble and has the ability to work in close coordination with every one.

“Such is trait could not be seen in all. He has   immense respect for people’s representatives,” he said.

His popularity has also earned him the tag of most frequently ‘facebooked collector’ too. District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said that he will be leaving the city with a content heart. “I wanted to work for the people and I believe I have  done the best of my abilities. I got immense support from all quarters and my task wouldn’t have become this easy if not for the cooperation I got from all quarters,” he said.
