The High Court on Tuesday sought the state government’s stand on the plea by the Paravoor rape victim seeking to retain the Special Investigating Officer probing the case.  Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner Bijo Alexander is heading the investigation team.

“The SIT headed by Bijo Alexander was functioning in full swing in the initial stage. Gradually, the SIT lost its strength  and at present there is one grade SI, two ASIs and one woman civil police officer to probe 52 cases. Of these, the final report has been filed only in 11 cases.  It is due to the earnest attitude of the investigation officer, the probe is progressing,” the petitioner submitted. The victim pointed that there was a possibility of the investigation officer being transferred out of Kochi as he has completed two years of service in Ernakulam.

If the officer is transferred under the guise of general order of transfer of officers, it would cause further delay in completing the investigation, she submitted.

The victim, now housed at the Government Girls Home, Kakkanad, had already written to the Chief Minister and Chief Justice Manjula Chellur narrating her hapless plight.
