UGMA Award for George Thayil

The ‘Aarogya Ratna Award’, instituted by the Union of German Malayali Association (UGMA) will be conferred on Dr George Thayil, senior consultant cardiologist at Lourdes Hospital here. Dr Thayil, who is also the state president, Indian College of Cardiology, was selected for the award considering his contribution in the field of healthcare.

A native of Kurupanthara in Kottayam district, Dr Thayil did his PG in medicine from Munich University, Germany. He later underwent training with the Austrian Cardiology National Board and completed a speciality fellowship. He has also won the fellowship of American College of Chest Physicians, fellowship of the American College of Cardiology in 2009,the global excellency award and Kudumbadeepam award.
