Like bees and honey, cravings for seafood are something that cannot be set aside from the persona of a Malayali. One can personally experience this frenzy on Friday nights at Springs Restaurant, The Avenue Regent. Foodies can pamper their tastebuds with an array of seafood delicacies ranging from Indian to Chinese to Continental flavours.

Begin the delicious buffet spread with a delicious welcome drink and then sip on the hot shrimp and coriander soup. The experience will put salad buffs in the seventh heaven, as one can pick from around 10 varieties of seafood salads from the counter- ‘Prawn cocktail’, ‘Fish mayonnaise’, ‘smoked salmon’, ‘tuna salad’ ‘Sardine salad’ and ‘Octopus salad’ just to name a few. “Prawn cocktail salad has a thousand island dressing which is made from mayonnaise sauce and cocktail sauce. Salads finished in green goddess dressing, French dressing and the like are other options,” says Benny M V, sous chef.

Once you fill your tummies with these salads, it is time to bite into some hot and spicy delectables from the live counter which offers grilled fish, grilled prawn, dragon squid and mixed seafood grilled. Squid marinated in salt, pepper, lime juice, chilly flakes, parsley, garlic and olive oil will melt away in your mouth and one will scream for more for sure.

Strolling towards the main dish spread, one will be welcomed with lip-smacking delights like ‘baked fish’, Continental specialty ‘seafood Newburg’, for the traditional tastebuds there are ‘seafood masala Kerala style’, ‘fish moily’, ‘fried karimeen’, ‘karimeen masala’ and ‘karimeen pollichath’ to gorge in. For the experimental foodies, there is the French style ‘seafood au-gratin’ or the Chinese style ‘Mandarin fish’ to choose from.

The buffet also offers local fish delights like the ‘kozhuva fry’ which can be savoured as a starter too.

 The scrumptious spread also has the filling ‘seafood pasta’, fried rice with platefuls of squid, prawn and fish and ‘seafood noodles’.

The dishes can also be accompanied with appam, kerala bread and roti.

After having a sumptuous dinner, add the final touch with a serving of dessert. The buffet offers around 10 varieties of desserts from chocolate mousse to pastry to ice cream to cut fruits.

Now, seafood lovers in the city have a special day to look forward to every week- Fridays from 7 pm to 11 pm.
