“So far, nobody has approached the Elamakkara Police station with a written complaint. We have just started functioning sans a telephone connection which could be a reason,” Pradeep Kumar, SI in-charge of the station, said.

The police station is yet to get a land phone connection. “The application for the telephone connection has been submitted to the authorities. We expect the connection within a few days. Till then the public can contact the Elamakkara police station on the SI’s mobile number at 9497981235,” said Pradeep Kumar.

“The police personnel, a home guard and an ASI met with an accident on their way back to the police station after duty. The motorcycle a Hero Honda Karizma was destroyed in the fire. A technical problem in the engine is suspected to be the reason. However, the policemen did not suffer any injury,” the SI said.

When contacted Hibi Eden MLA, who was instrumental in setting up the station said steps would be taken to get a telephone connection on a priority basis. “The issue was brought to my notice just two days prior to the inauguration and a holiday came in between. I expect the issue to be resolved this week,” said Hibi. He added that measures are being taken to bring Elamakkara station under the jurisdiction of Ernakulam North Circle.

A long-pending demand, the  police station at Elamakkara, became a reality when it was inaugurated by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday. The station with 25 personnel is housed in a rented building at Keerthi Nagar.
