Muvattupuzha Focuses on Infrastructure

The Muvattupuzha municipality budget has earmarked a meaty amount for the proposed Urban Haat Project

The Muvattupuzha municipality on Wednesday presented the annual budget for 2014-15 fiscal giving stress on projects related infrastructure development.

The budget presented by municipal vice-chairperson Anees M Babu Raj at a council meeting here has  an anticipated revenue of `31.85 crore and `30.3  crore as expenditure.

The budget which focuses on completion of pending infrastructure development works has earmarked `1.39 crore for the proposed Urban Haat Project. The  vice-chairperson said the long-delayed project would be completed in next fiscal. There is a budget allocation of `1 crore for executing the municipal stadium work.

The municipality also aims at renovation of the shopping complex with an budget allocation of `30 lakh. A new floor will be constructed.

The vice-chairperson has announced a river-view complex on the banks of  Muvattupuzha river and a sum of `3.5 crore has been set aside for this.

For setting up a shopping complex near EEC market, the municipality has earmarked `1.5 crore. Besides, a shopping complex near the Muvattupuzha KSRTC stand has also been mooted in the annual budget and an amount of `30 lakhs has been allocated.

  For setting up a fish market complex at the Muvattupuzha market, a sum of `20 lakh has been alloted. A sum of ` 5 lakh has been set aside for setting up a sewage treatment plants at slaughter houses. An amount of `20 lakh goes for renovation of East Busstand and `5 lakhs for purchasing land for Anganawadis in various wards.  The new budget also lays stress on welfare initiatives with the municipality earmarking `1 crore for implementation of various schemes for women, children, elderly and physically challenged.

There is a budget allocation of `2 lakh for purchasing aid for the physically challenged person. To institute educational awards for students in the government schools under the municipality, `1.40 lakh has been earmarked.

For effective implementation of housing schemes and for distribution of nutritious food for SSLC students, `70 lakhs and `3 lakh has been earmarked. The municipatiy has also set aside an amount for pension schemes. 

Though the agricultural sector was not considered much, the municipality has set aside `5 lakh for implementing barren-free municipality project.  ENS
