In a move that could baldy affect the operations of the Ernakulam depot of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), the CITU-affiliated union will be going for an indefinite strike from Friday night.
Kerala State Road Transport Employees Association (KSRTEA)unit secretary K P Ajay Kumar said that they would call off the strike only if the authorities decide to implement the several demands including the payment of their pending arrears immediately.
The KSRTEA has been staging dharnas in front of the unit officer of the KSRTC Ernakulam depot since December 20.
However, despite such moves, there has been no initiative from the authorities to meet the demands, KSREA members alleged.
The management has failed to fill up the vacancy of conductors in the KSRTC despite the completion of the recruitment process. Despite promises to provide Electronic Ticket Machines (ETM’s) to the Ernakulam depot, the authorities have not delivered them, said T P Venu, district secretary of the association.
Despite repeated requests, no steps have been taken to ensure an conducive atmosphere for the employee at the garage, he said.
Since a large section of the employees belong to the CITU-affiliated KSRTEA, there are apprehensions that the Ernakulam depot officers will have to cancel several services which will in turn leave passengers in the lurch.
