More than five trees planted by the Social Forestry have been axed on   the NH bypass at Vyttila. The trees felled were a mango tree, peepal and other varieties.

“We do not know who chopped it. But they chopped it one at a day. The last  ones were felled yesterday, said T N Pratapan, state vice-president, Kerala Paristhithi Samrakshana Forum. The trees were cut down above the fence. At a time when the shade trees on the MG road were felled for the Kochi Metro Rail work, the act has ignited public protest.

The Kerala Paristhithi Samrakshana Forum has alleged that it might have been felled out by the shop keepers. “We have registered a complaint with the Social Forestry and the Police Commissioner. This should not be allowed as the green cover in the city is decreasing at a faster rate,” he said.
