Symposium on aortic aneurysm held at AIMS

Aortic aneurysm is a dangerous and life-threatening condition and requires comprehensive care, experts in the field have said.

KOCHI: Aortic aneurysm is a dangerous and life-threatening condition and requires comprehensive care, experts in the field have said. The issue was discussed in detail at the one-day symposium organised by the department of Cardiology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS). Renowned national and international faculties participated in the symposium.

An aortic aneurysm is dilation, bulging, or ballooning of a weakened part of the aortic artery wall. It can affect any part of the main blood vessel. Aortic aneurysms are dangerous because of the risk of rupture, causing life-threatening hemorrhage.

AIMS is one of the leading centres for the treatment of aortic aneurysm and dissection in the state and has handled nearly 150 such cases successfully. Dr Prathapan Nair, principal, Amrita School of Medicine, inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp. Medical superintendent Dr Sanjeev K Singh,  Dr  S K Ramachandran, Dr M Vijayakumar and Dr Rajeev C spoke on the occasion.

Papers were presented by Dr Rajesh Kannan,  Dr Ashish Kumar, Kozhikode, Dr K U Natarajan, Dr Shiv K Nair, Amrita Hospital, Kochi, Dr Sanjay Mehrotra, Bangalore, Dr George Joseph, Vellore, Dr Sreeram Narayanan, Singapore, Dr Manoj P, Dr Dinesh Balakrishnan, Dr Vijayakumar and Dr Hisham.
