Noted Cardiac Surgeon Dr M S Vallyathan has said that Dr Varghese Pulikkan, founder of Medical Trust Hospital, started an era of multi-speciality hospitals in Kerala.
“The qualities that Dr Varghese inherited from legendary doctors like B C Roy during his studies in Kolkata has influenced him to think differently,” he said.
Dr Vallyathan was receiving the first award given in memory of Dr Varghese from Elias George, Managing Director, Metro Rail Limited at Irumbanam Medical Trust Institute of Medical Science as part of Founder day celebrations.
“The difficulties that Dr Varghese and I faced to build and develop Sri Chitra Institute of Medical Sciences in Thiruvananthapuram and Medical Trust at Ernakulam were similar. There were several occasions when Varghese came forward to support me and approached me for advices,” Vallyathan recalled.
“Dr Varghese had a vision bigger than life. He fulfilled the dream of a multi speciality hospital, facing several challenges, at a time when we only heard of such hospitals” said Elias George.
Medical Trust director P V Anthony presided over the meet. Dr P V Louis, Dr P V Thomas, P V Xavier, Dr K Vinodan and Dr S Anthony spoke following which there were cultural events hosted by Medical Trust employees and students.
