Town Hall Inauguration

KOCHI: The renovated building of Mattanchery Town Hall will be inaugurated by Minister for Public Works V K Ibrahim Kunju on Monday. The renovation of the hall, a long-pending demand of the local people, has been completed spending over `2 crore.

It was decided one year ago to fund the Mattanchery and Ernakulam Town Hall renovation projects under the decentralised plan of the Kochi Corporation with a total estimated expenditure of `2 crore.

The Town Hall renovation projects were taken up as multi-year projects keeping in mind that the works, even if expensive, should be completed in full considering the importance of these public amenities.

The corporation had shortlisted three designs for the renovation project out of which it chose one considering the financial viability. Unlike Ernakulam Town Hall, the foundation for Mattachery Town Hall was found to be strong which eased the renovation works. The new hall has extended sides, spacious dining halls and larger parking facilities.

The renovation has literally fullfilled a long time wish of West Kochi residents who did not have a hall with modern facilities.
