State Police Games Begin Today

Range IG said that around 1,000 policemen from across the State would participate in the 32 athletic events, of which 132 participants are women.

KOCHI: The 44th edition of State Police Games and Athletic Meet will begin on Sunday on the Maharaja’s College ground here.

The three-day meet will be inaugurated by  Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala at 8 am.  ADGP K Padmakumar and Kochi Range IG M R Ajithkumar are the organising committee chairman and vice-chairman, respectively. City Police Commissioner K G James is the organising secretary.

Addressing reporters here on Saturday, Ajithkumar said that around 1,000 policemen from across the State would participate in the 32 athletic events, of which 132 participants are women.   Unlike in the previous years, this year, the best performer will be awarded a cash prize of `5,000. Eminent persons in the police force, including Asian Games winners S Sini and Neenumol, are expected to attend the event. The torch run has been initiated at Mararikkulam in Alappuzha by Arjuna Award winner Udayakumar, who will hand over it to I M Vijayan on Sunday.

Finally, the torch will be handed over to the Home Minister by athletes Vivek and Jojimol.
