Three-day Annual Navy Fest Begins

KOCHI: The three-day Navy Fest-2014, the annual fair held in connection with the Navy Day, began at the Southern Naval Command, here on Friday.

The fair was inaugurated by Vice-admiral S P S Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Naval Command.

On the occasion, five warships and two sail training ships, which were present in Kochi, opened their gangways to the public.

As part of the celebration, naval air station INS Garuda will also welcome visitors, where a Navy aircraft is on display.

As many as 27 stalls have been set up as part of the Navy Fest, including 10 professional stalls by various departments of the Southern Naval Command.

They include the stalls of the training schools of Navigation and Direction, Anti-submarine Warfare based in Kochi, Naval Ship Repair Yard, Naval Aircraft Yard and the Naval Armament Depot.

The festival will be open  from 10 am to 5 pm until Sunday.

On Friday, Vice-admiral Cheema also inaugurated the fifth edition of the military photo exhibition, being organised in association with the Ernakulam Press Club.
