Bhavan's Varuna Vidyalaya Wins Inter-School Quiz Competition

KOCHI: Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, clinched the 2014 edition of the Inter-school Quiz Competition held at Naval Base.

Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, were declared runner-up and Kendriya Vidyalaya-II, Kochi, stood third. Of the 11 schools that participated, six schools - Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Choice School, Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2 and Navy Children School had qualified for the finals through a written preliminary test. The teams comprised two students representing class VIII and IX respectively.

Vice-Admiral SPS Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, gave away the rolling trophy to the winners. Gift vouchers were also presented to the winners by ‘Crossword’ while Central Mall gave away vouchers to all finalists. The quiz was supported by the ‘Aeronautical Society of India’. The annual Inter-school Quiz is organised by the Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) as part of Navy Week celebrations. The initiative, since its inception in 2006, is aimed at grooming the future of the country by inculcating the habit of reading and research in the young minds.

Merit awards for ‘Best Overall Academic Performance’ were also presented to the wards of Navy and DSC personnel studying in Navy Children School, Kochi, KV I and KV II, Katari Bagh and KV, Dronacharya.
