Seminar on Coastal Protection

KOCHI: The seminar on ‘Coastal protection - challenges and possibilities’ organised by the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad was held at the Cusat Marine Science Auditorium on Wednesday. The meeting observed that the existing Coastal Regulation Zone notification should be revised in such a manner that it protects the interests of the people living along coastal belt.

K N Sasidharan Pillai presided over. K M Elias, K V Thomas, advocate Ravi Prakash and G Gopinathan spoke. The demands raised at the seminar included publication of minutes of the Coastal Zone Management Authority on website, reconstitution of Coastal Zone Management Authority with the participation of coastal people, prevention of encroachment on backwaters and beaches and formulation of coastal land utilisation policy.
