Kwa to Initiate ‘Debt Clearance’ Drive

Water connection of houses that fail to clear their dues before Monday will be disconnected

KOCHI: The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has decided to disconnect the water connection of houses which failed to clear dues before September 15. KWA executive engineer, B Mohanan in a press release stated that a special drive named ‘Debt Clearance’ would be conducted from September 15 to October 31 and strict action would be taken against  people who fails to pay the water charges.

KWA officials said that around `90 crore has to be recovered from the defaulters in Ernakulam division during the current financial year for those who do not pay bill even after suspension of water supply, the department would launch steps for revenue recovery against them. KWA would be conducting the drive first at Karuvellipady, Pallimuku, Kadavanthara, Kaloor sub divisions. Later the drive would be extended to all parts of the Kochi Corporation and nearby places like Mulavukkad, Cheranaloor, Kadamakudy, Chellanam and Kumbalangi.

Action would be initiated against users who have not replaced non-functional water meters. According to KWA officials, the intimation was given to all the users for replacing the non functioning water meters few months back. Similarly, those who have not received the water bills should collect them from the respective KWA sub divisions.

KWA has formed special teams as part of Debt Clearance Drive and checking would be conducted in  houses. B Mohanan said that all the defaulters will have to clear entire dues for getting the connection again.
