Dweep Passengers Stranded

KOCHI: Passengers to the Lakshadweep who had arrived at the wharf to board the ship MV Kavarathi were forced to wait for hours on Tuesday, owing to power disruption at the boarding point.

According to the passengers, though the boarding time was 9.00 am they were unable to enter the ship as the boarding procedure was affected by the power failure.

“None of the scanners were working. The authorities concerned should take measures to ensure alternative power supply at the wharf. Some of the passengers had arrived from hospitals in Kochi in ambulances, after completing treatment. However, they were forced to wait for hours, until power supply resumed. Though the MP, who is reported to have been in the vicinity of the wharf at that time, was informed about the issue he did not respond,” the passengers alleged.

However, when power supply was restored at 12.30, to the passengers dismay they were made to wait for another hour as the staff at the wharf had gone for lunch.
