MPs, MLA Urged to Pool in Funds With LSGs

KOCHI: The District Panchayat plans to come up with a suggestion that  MP and MLA funds should be pooled in with the Local Self Government funds  to materialise colossal projects like scientific abattoirs.

District panchayat president Eldose Kunnappilli said this will be mooted at the meeting to be held at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

“Instead of utilising amount individually and that too in a small amount, the MLAs and MPs should utilise their funds in collaboration with the   district panchayat. Only then can long-pending demands like advanced  abattoirs and modern crematoriums be realised, he said.

He added that it would be of immense help if people’s representatives use their full amount for setting up slaughter houses and crematoriums as this is most necessary things, he said.

“This could solve many problems such as garbage menace. The district hardly has slaughter houses. Though the government is giving grants, we have many projects to maintain and the grants given gets used up for it. With the less planned fund, the Local Self Governments are not in a situation to handle such colossal projects. Then how can we come up with projects such as advanced abattoirs and crematoriums which costs immensely,” he asked. Usually, the MLAs and Mps shell out a very less amount as small as `1 lakh for each ward. Unfortunately, the majority of it gets used by the same MLAs and MPs to put up flexboards,” he asked.

Eldose Kunnappilli said the unavailability of land and opposition raised by the natives are major road blocks when it comes to implementing the  projects.

“These things should be discussed in detail. Otherwise, there will be no point in convening such meetings. In the past, four or five such meetings were convened but with no results,” he said.

Wednesday’s meeting is convened to discuss setting up advanced slaughter houses at every local

self government departments.

It will be attended by the block panchayat secretaries, project directors and ward members of the every local self government departments.
