Leeba Case: 4 More Cops Suspended

KOCHI: Four more police officers accused of torturing Leeba Ratheesh, the domestic worker who was arrested by the Cheranalloor police on charges of stealing gold ornaments, were suspended on Saturday.

Additional sub-inspector Kuryakose; and women civil police officers Siju, Sandhyamol and Rekha were the officials who faced action today. The suspension was ordered by ADGP K Padmakumar, on the basis of a report filed by Crime Detachment Assistant Commissioner V Sunil Kumar.

The Crime Detachment Wing has also registered first information reports (FIR) against all the seven police officers who were suspended in the case.

Meanwhile, members of the action council, which was formed to provide support to the victim, said that they were not satisfied with the latest action by the authorities.“We had received a hint about the move to suspend the officials. An urgent meeting will be convened on Sunday, and further actions will be taken after that. We believe that Sreeji, the officer who was suspended earlier in connection with the case,  was not involved in the case. So, we suspect some foul-play in the investigation,” Joint Action Council president Jolly Emblasserry said.
