KOCHI: People of Kochi have set an example by donating blood to a native of Uttar Pradesh who had to remove a big tumour in his  thyroid gland.

Kallan Prasad, 65, a native of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, was admitted at Kims hospital with a tumour in thyroid gland which was 35-years-old.

He was not able to get the tumour removed in UP because no one in his homeland was willing to donate blood needed for the surgery due to the superstition that his disease was due to God curse.Prasad was shifted to Kochi by his elder son, who is working at a private firm at Edayar, and was admitted to the hospital.

Natives of Edayar took the initiative to find the blood donors. The lengthy and complicated surgery needed a lot of blood and hence, a large number of donors.

A team of experts at the hospital led by Santhosh Balakrishnan carried out the surgery and removed the tumour which had spread to the bones and also to the back of his lung. Prasad has returned to Uttar Pradesh.
