KOCHI: The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday granted bail to K M Abdul Majeed, relative of Oommen Chandy’s former gunman Salim Raj who is an accused in the Kalamassery land grab case.

Chief Judicial Magistrate K S Ambika issued the order after hearing the bail petition filed by the accused. Bail was granted to the accused on condition of a bond of `1 lakh and two solvent sureties, who should be his relatives. The sureties should produce original land documents. The accused has also been asked to appear before the investigation officer whenever required. He should not leave Kerala without the permission of the court, and should surrender his passport at the court.

The CBI, which is investigating the Kalamassery land grab case, has not applied for the custody of Abdul Majeed, even after arresting him one week ago. Earlier, Abdul Majeed was arrested in connection with the Kadakampally land grab case, and was released on bail before being arrested again in connection with the Kalamassery land grab case.

The allegation against Abdul Majeed is  that he bribed officials at the village office and got changed the ‘thandaper’ of 116 cents of land owned by Sheriffa at Pathadipalam near Kalamassery.  The CBI also arrested three officials of Revenue Department.
